About Therapy
Below are answers to some common questions to help you understand my services and approach to therapy. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out—I’m here to support you.
It can be challenging to know the right time to seek support, but there are a few common signs that it might be beneficial. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, experiencing persistent feelings of sadness or anxiety, struggling with relationships, or finding it difficult to cope with day-to-day life, counselling could offer you valuable support. Therapy can also be helpful if you’re going through a major life transition, feeling “stuck,” or simply wanting to understand yourself better and improve your overall well-being.
Remember, there’s no “right” time to start therapy—any time you feel ready to explore new ways to manage your feelings or challenges is a good time to seek support. If you’re unsure, reaching out for a free 15 minute consultation can help you understand if therapy is the right step for you.
I offer person-centred therapy, a compassionate and client-led approach that places you at the center of the therapeutic process. In person-centred therapy, the focus is on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel fully heard and understood. Rather than directing the session, I work alongside you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.
This approach is highly effective for those seeking greater self-understanding, personal growth, and ways to overcome life’s challenges. By focusing on your unique perspective and strengths, person-centred therapy empowers you to find solutions that resonate with your values and aspirations.
I offer three types of services to suit your needs: In-Person Counselling in a private, supportive setting, Online Counselling through secure video sessions, and Telephone Counselling for convenient, voice-only support. Each option is designed to provide flexibility and comfort based on your preferences.
The length of therapy varies depending on your personal goals, needs, and circumstances. Some people find that a few sessions are enough to address a specific issue, while others may benefit from longer-term support to explore deeper patterns and make lasting changes. Typically, therapy sessions are held weekly and last for 50 minutes, though the overall duration is flexible and can be adjusted as needed.
We can begin with an initial set of sessions, and then review progress and goals every 6 sessions to ensure that the support remains aligned with your needs. This regular check-in allows us to adjust the pace or focus of therapy based on what feels most helpful to you. Ultimately, therapy is a personal journey, and you have control over deciding how long you’d like to continue.
Yes, all sessions are confidential. I adhere to strict ethical guidelines to ensure that your privacy is always protected. Also, as I am not connected to the NHS, there is no risk of your information going on record. Everything we discuss stays between us, with a few legal exceptions (e.g., if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others). I’ll explain these exceptions in detail during our first session.
I understand that unexpected things happen, but if you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a fee of 50% of the session cost.
Yes, I offer flexibility for last-minute appointments when possible. If you’re in need of urgent support, feel free to contact me to check availability.
Please note, however, that GTA Counselling is not a crisis service. If you’re experiencing a crisis, please contact NHS 111, Samaritans on 116 123, or your GP.
To book a session or ask any further questions, you can contact me via email, phone, or the contact form on the Contact Page. I’ll respond as soon as possible to help you begin your counselling journey.
About Working With Me
Choosing the right therapist is an important step in your mental health journey. This section is here to give you an insight into how I work and what you can expect when we begin our sessions together. My aim is to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore your concerns at your own pace. Below, I’ve answered some common questions to help you understand what working with me might look like.
The 15-minute consultation is a free, no-obligation opportunity for us to connect and determine whether we’re a good fit to work together. During this call, we’ll briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, your expectations, and any questions you might have about the process.
It’s also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable taking the next step. We won’t go into deep therapeutic work during this time, but it’s a valuable starting point for building a trusting and collaborative relationship.
In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other. I’ll ask some questions about what brings you to counselling and what you hope to gain from our work together. This is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have about the process. The goal is to establish a comfortable and open space for us to begin.
Our sessions are 50 minutes long and are designed to give you the time and space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Each session is led by your needs, and we’ll review your progress every six sessions to ensure we’re working towards your goals.
As a person-centred therapist, I work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief, and relationship difficulties. If you’re unsure whether I can support your particular situation, feel free to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation.
At the moment, I do not accept insurance. However, I am happy to provide you with invoices or receipts if you’d like to explore reimbursement options with your insurance provider. Please check directly with your provider to see if they cover counselling or psychotherapy services.
