Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do you take sides?
No. My role is to remain neutral and supportive of both partners, ensuring that each person feels heard and respected.
What if one of us is more motivated than the other?
This is very common. Counselling can still be helpful, and we will work at a pace that feels manageable for both partners.
Is couples counselling only for relationships in crisis?
No. Many couples attend counselling to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, or navigate life changes.
What if difficult emotions or arguments arise in sessions?
Strong emotions are a normal part of couples work. Sessions are structured to keep communication respectful and emotionally safe.
Is couples counselling confidential?
Yes, within professional and legal limits. A clear confidentiality and ‘no secrets’ policy is discussed at the beginning of counselling.
What if couples counselling isn’t suitable for us?
If couples counselling is not appropriate (for example, due to safety concerns), this will be discussed sensitively and referrals to appropriate services will be offered.
Can we do couples counselling online?
Yes. Online couples counselling is available and can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions for many couples.
